These Nutella Pancakes are not just two pancakes sandwiched with Nutella. This is a pancake STUFFED NEATLY with Nutella. Find out how!! (It’s super duper easy!)
There are very few pancakes in this world where I won’t say “drown with copious amounts of maple syrup, butter and cream for optimal experience”. This is one of them.
When pillowy soft, fluffy pancakes are stuffed with warm, oozy Nutella, you simply don’t need anything else. I added some strawberries for a pop of colour and freshness. I probably could have added cream. But they are 1000% optional.
Look at this stack of irresistible-ness (is that a real word?!). Don’t you just want to reach through your screen and grab one of these Nutella Pancakes? 😉
I’ve seen plenty of Nutella Pancakes “around” on the world-wide-web. But they were all either two pancakes sandwiched together with Nutella, or you had to try to spread Nutella onto the batter in the fry pan (very difficult, I tried!).
The way I make these is a little….unorthodox, shall we say? This idea dawned on me when I read somewhere that the way restaurants make molten lava cake is to pop a frozen chocolate ganache into the batter. (Actually, I didn’t read that somewhere, I saw it in the movie “Chef” during the epic moment when Jon Favreau completely loses his cool at a restaurant critic!)
So what I do is make frozen discs of Nutella. Then when I’m making the pancakes, I just plonk a disc on the batter, cover with more batter, and hey presto! You have perfect Nutella Pancakes!! 🙂
I don’t usually have a jar of Nutella in my pantry. I can’t. It’s just too dangerous. Because I’m one of those people who will actually sit on the couch and eat Nutella straight out of the jar with a spoon.
No shame. Are you appalled? 😉
So Nutella is a treat in my books. Which means if I’m using it to make something, I’ve done something so exceptional that I have deemed that I deserve a treat. Like having a meat free carb free dairy free salad for dinner. (Correction: Couldn’t resist adding parmesan. So it wasn’t dairy free.). Which I did last night. Which means I can have these for Nutella Pancakes breakfast, right? I have plenty of calorie credits from last night to offset this against!
So….do you eat Nutella out of the jar too?? – Nagi x

Nutella Stuffed Pancakes
Ingredients
- 10 - 14 tbsp Nutella
Dry Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups plain flour
- 3 tsp baking powder
- 4 tbsp sugar
- Pinch of salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1 egg
- 1cup + 2 tbsp milk (I used low fat)
- 1 tsp vanilla essence (optional)
Other
- 1 tsp butter , separated (2 x 1/2 tsp)
- Sliced strawberries (optional)
Instructions
Frozen Nutella Disc
- Line a baking tray with baking paper (parchment paper).
- Dollop 1 1/2 to 2 tbsp of Nutella onto the baking tray and spread into a disc around 2 1/2" / 6cm in diameter and 1/5" / 1/2 cm thick. (Note 1) Repeat to make 7 discs.
- Place the tray in the freezer until firm (around 1 to 1 1/2 hours).
- Peel off the parchment paper. Keep the Nutella discs in the freezer until required (they soften quickly).
Pancakes
- Place the Dry Ingredients in a bowl and whisk to combine.
- Make a well in the centre and place the Wet Ingredients in the well. Whisk until combined and lump free (stop whisking as soon as it is smooth, don't over whisk).
- Melt 1/2 tsp butter in a non stick fry pan over medium heat. Once melted, wipe most of the butter off with a paper towel. (Note 2)
- Take 3 Frozen Nutella Discs out of the freezer just before you start cooking. (Note 3)
- Dollop 1/4 cup of batter into the fry pan. Working quickly, place 1 Frozen Nutella Disc in the middle of the batter, then top with batter to cover the Nutella disc (Note 4).
- When bubbles start appearing around the edges (around 2 minutes), lift up the edge and make sure the underside is golden. Then flip and cook until the other side is golden.
- Repeat with remaining batter. Melt more butter in the pan after the 3rd or 4th pancake. You should be able to make 7 in total, but sometimes it makes 6 - depends on how much batter you use on top of the Nutella.
- Serve warm with sliced strawberries, if using. You could also serve with cream but I find that it's not necessary!

They’re made in a muffin tin!
You might be a genius! I’m a pastry student and i’ve never thought of doing this!
This is totally breakfast for tomorrow!
although, as much as i love Nutella (and i do I really do!).. I think I’m gonna switch it with a higher quality chocolate-hazelnut praline.
Oh you pastry chef, going and getting all posh on me! 😉 Hope you love it! 🙂
Wow! My precious! I am drooling on this. I love pancakes and then stuffed them with nutella. I can devour them anytime of the day! 🙂
My friends and I are having a sleepover tonight. This will make the perfect breakfast!
Thank u nagi for this amazing idea. I’ll follow your blog from now on?
Love from Egypt!
This is dinner tonight!!
Dinner? YES do it!!! All the essential food groups right there in that stack!!;)
So… I am surfing through the Food Channel at Affimity (my favorite place and also where I am most hungry), I showed my husband while he’s making the Walmart list: “so… nutella, pancake mix, I’m so hungry now.” Instant hit and I haven’t even made it! So anxious to try this!
YES YOU MUST! It really is ridiculously delicious…Also it is afternoon tea time here in Australia and I’m off to sneak my jar of Nutella out of the pantry to eat with a spoon!!! I blame you for bringing up Nutella 🙂
These look amazing, but how can you go wrong with pancakes and/or Nutella? One question though: did you have any issues with the batter not cooking completely around the frozen Nutella disks? Hope to try this soon!!
Hi Caitlin! Nope, not at all, as long as you wait to see the bubbles appear on the surface around the Nutella disc before flipping it 🙂 There’s a photo in the post to show you what to look out for! Hope you try it and have no doubt you’ll LOVE IT!! 🙂
You are truly brilliant! Love Nutella, will try these for sure…
Hope you love them as much as I do!! 🙂
Holey moley! No way! I’m practically drooling here. What a clever woman you are for using the molten cake idea here. Your post is so funny you remind me of me actually – confessing to the Chef movie. 🙂 I can’t wait to try this out!!!
I don’t always have Nutella around either. It’s more of a budget thing (why do all amazing things cost more? Hehe).
Bookmarked for future making. And I’m so posting it back from my blog when I do it
Me too…Nutella is not cheap! It is definitely a treat in my books! 🙂
This is brilliant! I am definitely going to have to try this. I love Nutella and used to eat it all the time….and yes, many times it was with a spoon but recently i have been too cheap to buy it. When I was pregnant with my son I loved nutella, peanut butter, and a little powdered sugar on waffles. It was Fabulous! Crap, now I’m hungry and it’s 11 o’clock at night. Maybe I’ll give this a try this weekend. Thanks for the recipe. Such a wonderfully delightful and deliciously sinful idea
Thanks Dannee! I’m with you, Nutella is a treat in my house! 🙂 Hope you do give it a go! Super easy and a SUPER treat!! 🙂
You are a flippin’ genius! Wait–make that a pancake-flippin’ genius! I hope I have enough left in my jar for this. Won’t be buying any for a while. Too irresistable!
Ha ha!! I don’t know about genius…I’m jut a Nutella FIEND!!! You know what they say, where there’s a will, there’s a way….. 🙂
This is so cleaver! I don’t normally eat nutella, though I do have a jar in my pantry because my sister bought it a long time ago. it’s been only used 1 tsp of it. Now I’m going to borrow your brilliant idea to use it up! 🙂 Thanks!
Hope you do Sue!! I adore Nutella. Can’t have it in the pantry, too dangerous. It’s a special treat only!! 🙂
I loveeeeeeeeeeeee this idea! Can’t believe no one’s thought of it before. Those pancakes look to good to be true I tell you. Love love love!
Thank you so much Chi!! Obsession with Nutella makes the mind do wonders! 🙂
This is such a brilliant idea! I can’t believe I’ve never seen anything like it before, it’s genius!! Kudos to you!
Aw, thanks Alice! Just the obsessive mind of someone who LOVES Nutella!! 🙂
These look crazy good! I think I need a dozen! It is a really great idea to freeze the nutella first, which makes the pancake making process much smoother.
Thanks so much!! Yes, freezing the Nutella sure does make these easier to make!! 🙂
Wait. How did I miss this one!? I really have been buried under a rock (aka work)! 🙂 These look so fantastic, Nagi! Really a fun thing to make for kids too, with the surprise inside. Kids of all ages that is.
Thanks Marissa!! I always say these kind of foods are great for the kid inside ALL of us!! 🙂
I love that you took the humble pancake and put it together in such a brilliant way. Oozing out the center makes it so much more luscious and sophisticated! And your beautiful pics definitely do it justice!
Thank you so much Chahaya! 🙂
I have three little girls coming to visit in August and this is going to be on the menu. They will love this. John will want ice cream with his. 🙂
Well then berate him like a child and tell him “no! You do NOT need ice cream with this!” 🙂 (Or tell him he can have MORE pancakes if he skips the ice cream! )
You are a goddess!! Thank you for this wonderful recipe!!!! My husband loves Nutella and now I’m a superstar to him for making this ( of course I told him how It was your recipe)
I love all your helpful notes and little tricks.
Thank you so much!!! And keep them coming 🙂
Oh, you shouldn’t have admitted that it wasn’t YOUR recipe! After all, it was your handiwork in the kitchen that delivered this to him 🙂 Boy he is one lucky guy! Thank you for your lovely message and taking the time to let me know you loved it! N x
Ouch, my teeth hurt just looking at them. Yes, I’d have one. Ok maybe four! We all love a sugar high, don’t we?
Oh please. Because YOU never make indulgent treats with chocolate? He he! You deserve it. You’ll be bouncing off the walls – FAB! 🙂
OK #1 you are a flippin’ GENIUS! #2 OhhEmmGeeeee!! My daughter is here right now and I told her about the pancakes. She said NO I don’t want to see them. I of course being the loving mother that I am turned the computer screen around so she could see them 🙂 ya, I am helpful like that. Now she is drooling and wants pancakes hehe. I may have to give them a try. Oh, she said she totally gets the whole eating nutella with a spoon dealio. Me? I am a peanut butter girl!
Peanut butter with a spoon?? OK, I am missing something. HOW can you eat peanut butter with a spoon??!! P&J I get….but not plain peanut butter!!!! 😉 N x
